held by embracing droplets

Lismore Regional Gallery, Bundjalung Country / New South Wales
25 September 2026 - 31 January 2027

The atmospheric phenomena of mist and fog are manifestations of the transforming nature of water. In held by embracing droplets, they are offered as symbols through which our intricate connections to and by water in all its forms may be considered. Water systems are powerfully evident in the hydrological cycles of Widjabul Wia-bal Country in Lismore. While these systems have shaped the land over time immemorial, they have been disrupted by the accelerated rate of human intervention within these unique and precious environments. The artists in this exhibition reveal obscured histories, veiled memories, and embodied understandings of the environment and our connection to each other. They harness the transformative properties of water in its various states to explore these connections and to reframe narratives on its control and containment.
